I have been buying patterns and fabrics this spring with the intent to do some selfish sewing and also mentally prepare for the day my kids no longer will let me make their clothes. Not to mention the opportunity to get more fabric!
I recently blogged about a new children’s dress pattern called the Crossroads by Designs by Call Ajaire. It really was an quick sew with a huge fashion impact! No fair I want one, but wait, it is a children’s pattern. Oh no! Sooooo ….. I figured I will try and mash patterns and why not experiment!
Now I am not a pattern designer and will leave that to the professionals however I could not resist combining one of my all time favorite women’s’ and children’s’ pattern The Uptown/Downtown Dress from Sew Straight and Gather with the Crossroads pattern design.
So here are the patterns I used as my base and inspiration:
A dress I did last winter.
A tester version for the Children’s pattern – Crossroads Dress
For the base, I followed the pattern for the Uptown Downtown dress instructions and used the Sleeveless, fully lined, knee length dress I had to scale from an 8 bodice to a 10 bottom but I kept the 12 length. Next I use the technique and placing of the Crossroads (triangle) based on the Crossroads pattern and tutorial. I finished the neck and arm seams to match the Crossroads design. I love the dress! It definitely needs some fitting modifications and lining of the center of the triangle. But in the interim I will enjoy my new dress!
I do not like photographing myself and the tripod pictures are hilarious! It is a new skill I am learning – using timer and focus and lighting and body poses all at once! I was in tears looking at them. Here is a funny peek….. and they will remain small! So click on the links above to get your patterns!
