Bon Voyage

Sewing is fun but Paris is even better! And no I am not going. Our friends’ daughter who I would totally be BFFs with if I was young is! Seriously she is so talented and wise beyond her age, not to mention so beautiful (just like her mom)! I was flattered when she asked if I could make her a backpack to use  on her trip. J has a specific style so the vision was set. I just needed to find the fabrics. Upholstery fabric comes in bold colors but I really wanted something that had flair and personality for a young traveler.

The pattern was a straightforward backpack with color blocking options which I wanted. Peek a boo Pattern Shop Star Student Backpack (affiliate link) had just the pattern!

I really wanted to capture all the locations on the front panel it took a bit of work to get it all to line up. Where did I get this amazing fabric? The Black Fabric is Home Decor fabric with a nice stiffness to it for body and the Metallic Eiffel Tower lining are both from Joann Fabrics (affiliate link). The gorgeous travel print is called P Kaufmann Cityscape Fiesta New York Paris and is a decor fabric from an Etsy shop called Affordable Home Fabrics (link).

The details make this such a fun product to customize. I used soft cotton batting and doubled it up to provide a soft barrier between the back and contents for hours of exploring the cities. The back panel has a  straight stitch quilting pattern as not to compete with the print.

A holder for some fancy Paris bottled waters.

And just in case she forgot who she was in all the dreamy French countryside…..

And of course a small clutch for the lipstick and such and a Perler Bead Eiffel tower keychain!  img_5920

Now we just need to wait for the picture of J with her backpack in Paris! Can’t wait!
